About the Georgia Freedom Network
Mission
The Georgia Freedom Network promotes and defends the great American principles of individual liberty, constitutional government, sound money, free markets, and a non-interventionist foreign policy, by means of educational and political activity within the state of Georgia.
History
Liberty Won
The founding fathers of the United States of America risked their lives, fortunes, and sacred honors to break the ties that bound them to an oppressive monarch who taxed them from across the Atlantic. After several exchanges between colonists and British military personnel stationed in the colonies, tensions escalated into open war. General Washington managed to form an army made up of ragtag soldiers who, at times, could barely feed and clothe themselves. This continental army fought alongside militia men, braved harsh winters, and suffered defeat after defeat. Incredibly, they accomplished something that seemed impossible to most people of the time – the defeat of the British military forces in America.
What sustained the will of the colonists to do the impossible? Their undying desire for liberty. This notion of liberty had never been realized before on any continent, nor in any country. In 1776, the Declaration of Independence announced the former colonies' independence from Great Britain. Then, in 1787 the Constitution of the United States of America was adopted. This unique document established the new government of the new country.
The purpose of the Constitution wasn't to put limits on any aspect of the lives of the people. Rather, it defined the limits of the Federal government in order to protect the liberty of the individual. In this document, there are even provisions enabling the people to rise up and form a new type of government should the existing one become tyrannical.
Liberty Lost
Sadly, the governance of our country has been overrun by elected officials who ignore the Constitution and the principles of liberty. These corrupt “representatives” have only their own interests in mind when executing their duties. This has led to institutions such as the Federal Reserve and its collections arm, the Internal Revenue Service. Countless unnecessary wars have been fought under the guise of maintaining our freedom, when our freedom wasn't threatened by the supposed enemy. The events of September 11 are being used as excuses to usurp liberty at home and abroad. These atrocities include illegal monitoring of communications, suspension of habeas corpus, suspension of the posse comitatus act, torture, secret prisons, extraordinary renditions, and random security checkpoints.
It is not well known that the Federal Reserve is a private bank, run by private bankers. It has succeeded in removing the gold backing of our currency, and has created a debt-based economy that is as oppressive as the taxation of the colonies by the British government in the pre-Revolutionary era. Runaway inflation has driven the value of the dollar so low, that our currency is near the point of collapse.
The excessive spending of a welfare and warfare state is largely to blame for the practices of the Federal Reserve. When a new social program (welfare, national health care, aid to other countries, etc.) is signed into law, the money must come from somewhere. Because it doesn't exist already, the government borrows it from the Federal Reserve which prints it out of thin air. When we invade a sovereign nation to satisfy our greed or to expand our empire, this also incurs a tremendous expense. The finances for these endeavors come from the Federal Reserve loans to our government. To repay these debts, the IRS must collect money through excessive taxation.
Now, our nation is on the brink of another war that will strain our resources even further. The drums of war are resounding across this nation and the world. They are heralding the eminent downfall of our economy and our standing in the world.
Our government's war on drugs is an affront to individual liberty, and it has proven to be a massive failure. Millions of tax dollars are spent each year to take down drug lords and their networks. With each of these arrests comes a violent street battle to determine who will take his place. In addition, the rate at which citizens are addicted is the same as it was before the drug war began. Drug use is a crime without a victim, yet those who chose to use are incarcerated and run through an overpopulated prison industry. This is a war that can never be won.
Our Plan to Restore Liberty
All this seems too overwhelming to confront. There is a bright side to it, though. People all across the country are coming together to oppose this tyranny. We loosely call our efforts the “Freedom Movement.” We are a group of individuals who are trying to restore the Constitution and the principles of liberty for which our founding fathers fought and died. We are disparate, but growing. Each group promotes liberty in it own way, and without a central authority dictating its direction. This decentralized approach is the essence of a free society.
The Georgia Freedom Network, in particular, seeks to restore liberty by
- Promoting candidates for public office who share our commitment to freedom.
- Gaining a foothold in political life at every level of Georgia government.
- Educating the electorate and lobbying against harmful or unconstitutional legislation.
- Encouraging the discussion of events and ideas to help people learn more about the principles of liberty.
- Establishing a speakers bureau to give presentations around the state about the great principles we champion.
- Distributing media such as films on DVD, fliers, and pamphlets to sow the seeds of liberty.
- Writing on our web site about the topics of the day through blogs and discussion forums.
